The date for the 2012 Swissôtel Vertical Marathon is out.
The race date is on 25th November 2012, which means I’ve got less than 8 months to train for it.
Back in February when I first started training for the race, I took 7 mins 22 seconds to scale my flat of 30 storeys. Fast forward to April, my timing has improved by almost a minute when I clocked in 6 mins and 26 seconds.
The plan is to improve my timing to 5 minutes and to take on a higher block of flats, like the 50 storeys Pinnacle at Duxton. That would really be a test of my endurance and stamina.
Having the determination to be healthy especially in the area of exercise did not happen overnight. It all starts with making a conscious decision to change my lifestyle. My family has a history of preventable diseases, like high cholesterol, diabetes and this was largely attributed to our indulgent diet and lifestyle. In fact, two of my aunties and grandmother had cancer but thankfully they are have been cleared for close to 5 years now.
Not wanting to go down the slippery road, I’ve made up my mind to be healthy so that I can avoid suffering from the consequences of these illness. And of course in doing so, make a positive influence to my family and friends around me.

Wow. Just wow. Looking at the timing makes my jaw drop. I didn’t time myself when I climbed, but I doubt it’s anywhere near your timing. I’m gonna start timing myself now!!! 🙂
I find that timing it not only gives you a sense of how fast you are, but you’ll find that you’ll improve with time which makes you more motivated. Jia you!
