A family that plays together, stays together

Besides scoring two dates with Alexis over the long weekend, we also had lots of fun as a family. In our home, one of the mottos that we live by has got to be “The family that plays together, stays together.”

Being busy parents, we make family time a priority on weekends and bond together by having lots of fun. I would like to add that a fun-loving spirit is what keeps us feeling youthful (even though we may not feel like it on most days) and healthy. Don’t you know that when you have to run, chase and challenge your physical levels to keep up with a bouncing three-year-old who doesn’t stop like an energiser bunny, it’s bound to take your fitness level up by a notch or two too?

On Saturday, we packed our bubble wands, grabbed Sophie’s strider and headed to the Botanical Gardens.

We went to the big open area across the symphony stage and told Sophie that it’s playing time. You should have seen how her eyes lit up when she heard those magical words. But she was not the only one who had a fun time.

The picture above goes to show that age should not deter us from being silly around our loved one. In fact, I think Alexis and I had more fun than Sophie going up the slope and whizzing down at full speed while keeping our balance on her strider. And nope, it didn’t get damage in the process. So if you are considering to buy one for your child, it’s not too late!

I do hope that when Sophie gets older, I’ll still remember the importance of playing together instead of fussing over her academic achievements and being a kiasu parent to send her for different enrichment classes to occupy her weekend. There is something about playing together, laughing together that reinforces the bonds as a family. Play together, stay together.

Is playing together an important part of your family life too? Do share how you find ways to play together as a family 🙂

“No one gets left behind.” Coincidentally I was thinking of blogging about it today!

Yep! It opened my eyes the first time I heard it, and knew that’s how I’d love to build my family.

Very cute! Kids sure love bubbles! I try to remember to have fun playing even when I’m feeling tired. J loves to run back and forth from bedroom to bedroom. He never gets tired. Sheesh!

Love this post, Susan! And I can’t agree more on how important it is for a family to play together! =) I just hope more Singaporean families will do it too!
