The day I declared a war

As a working mum, I can’t tell you how much I look forward to my weekends. Usually, Friday night are date nights for me and Alexis when Sophie stays over at her grandparents place. But last Friday, I only left the office at 8pm and this has been my usual knock off time as I’ve been crazy busy at work for the past two weeks.

So I was really looking to the weekends when I can rest,  catch up on my blog and maybe even go for a run since I’ve badly neglected my exercise. Plus I needed a more healthy way to release those pent up frustrations from work instead of stuffing myself with comfort food which are evidently giving me pimples and dimples in areas where the sun doesn’t shine on. Major boo hoo 🙁

But who would have guessed, when I woke up on Saturday morning I was horrified to find ants crawling all over my home. They were in the kitchen, near the TV and also near the shoe cabinet. Now if there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s the sight of these tiny ants. Correction, I go BALLISTIC when I see ants in the home. The sight of them makes me drop everything I’m doing and go hunt down their source. So I declared, “That’s it, I’m declaring a war!”

The first trail led me to a shoebox of where the ants have created a nest! I can’t even describe how utterly disgusted I was and to make matters worse, it was the shoebox where my wedding shoes were stored. I immediately cleaned up the walls, hoping to erase the scent of the ant trail and keep them away. That’s where I noticed another trail in the kitchen. All in all, we uncovered three ant trails, one to a dead cockroach behind the TV console and another to my cookbooks. My friend was still joking that they were looking for recipe to cook for their queen ant. Not funny…

Big fat ants crawling out from my cookbooks, or rather the corner behind my cookbooks

We gave the house a good cleaning after turning it upside down. Yes I really meant it!

In case you’re wondering, I used this liquid ant bait. I call it the liquid gold for the ants as they do take to the bait rather quickly as evident from the photo above. But don’t expect instant results and hope to see them drop dead in seconds as it takes time for the ants to take the bait and bring it back to their nest. Besides that we also wiped the walls, kitchen cabinets and shoe cabinets with vinegar and water solution,  so I pray and hope that they don’t return anytime soon.

When I posted pictures on my Facebook, I realized that I’m not the only one with ants woe. At least that should give me some comfort that I’m not as domesticated as I hope. But I doubt that’s going to out me in the running for the domestic goddess anytime soon.

How do you get rid of the ants in your home? Please share your secrets with me!

Hi, you can try 50% vinegar and 50% water and spray the mixture on the ants… it works wonders!

We have ant issues in our master bath and apparently it’s because of moisture. No ants in the kitchen, so they weren’t looking for food. Weird huh? Anyways, our pest guy left some ant-trap-goo for them too. Dropping dead at a fast rate. We’ll continue spraying too. Good luck!
