At 2 years old, Sophie no longer falls under the toddler category but is now of preschool age according to the Baby Centre. That’s how fast my little baby has grown.
Speaking of which, she’s starting to pick new skills everyday…
Like learning to brush her teeth (okay not the proper way yet, but she’ll get there soon)
Learning to color neatly within a defined area like her letters
Learning to use the potty (we still struggle when it’s poo poo time…but now she’s knows when she needs to go for a pee)
Lately she’s been exerting her independence streak saying “Sophie do” or “I do” when she wants to do things by herself. And if we dare to intervene, we’ll risk frustrating her and getting our hands smacked. True story which happened to Alexis!*Ouch*
Before she learnt to remove articles of clothing, it used to be items like hair clips, rubber bands and her sunnies. Slowly it progressed to her socks and shoes. Now that she’s learning to use the potty, we’re teaching her to pull down her pants and diapers. And just last week, she’s starting to tell us that want to wear her pants by herself too. I know that she’s still trying but that didn’t stop this mummy for recording her attempt and having a good laugh memory!
Tip Box: Kids who are learning a new skill may take time to get it right even after a few attempts. But what they need is parents to cheer them on in their efforts to be independent. So don’t hurry them, lose your patience or worse do it for them. Allow them space and pace to learn and very soon they’ll grow in confidence to pick up new skills.
