Weekends are my favourite part of the week. And nothing quite beats a laid back weekend where you can take a little escape from the city to spend a relaxing time with the family while enjoying good food and great company.
If that thought sounds enticing to you, then the Sunday Garden Party at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa’s Atmosphere by the Sea may just be your perfect choice for a leisurely Sunday afternoon.
Sunday Garden Party at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
Located right on the beach front of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Atmosphere by the Sea offers an unblocked view of the South China Sea where you are surrounded by the lush greenery of the garden. If you choose to dine al fresco, you’ll enjoy the gentle lulling of the sea breeze and the crashing of waves.
Upon stepping foot into the restaurant, you’ll be spoilt for choice by the mouth-watering variety of cuisine that this Sunday lunch buffet offers. Available from noon to 3 p.m., this feast for the family features a sumptuous spread from cold cuts to appetisers, soups, meat carvings, local delights, grilled food, sushi, seafood and dessert.
The seafood spread deserves a special mention here with its towering arrangement of clams, mussels, crabs, lobsters, king crab legs, prawns and oysters. Trying to watch my diet was a futile attempt as I made multiple rounds to have my fill of fresh and succulent seafood.
And that’s not all, outside the restaurant was their hot food section with local and international delights, grilled and roast selection and a live carving station. I especially liked their Peking duck and roast chicken that were cooked to perfection.
To accompany the excellent food, we had music by this group of roving musicians as they sang and entertained the diners with their songs. There were a few groups of guests who came to celebrate their birthday and these musicians and singers liven their celebration with songs of Happy Birthday.
And of course, the perfect end to every meal – the desserts.
Here there is no shortage of choices as the dessert table is filled with assorted flavoured cakes, macarons, eclairs, cookies, tiramisu, ice cream and local kuehs. I think we probably all ate too much that afternoon and had a slight food coma.
Oh and before I forget, here the little guests have a special buffet line catered for them too. Taking their height into consideration, everything is placed at an accessible level for them to help themselves to all time favourites like pasta, nuggets and chips. I did wished they provided more options for the kids perhaps like fried rice, noodles or even pizza. But I suppose they kids could help themselves to what’s available from the buffet too.
Since all kids have a sweet tooth, there was a dessert section of gummies, marshmallows and graham crackers which they can add to their ice cream. Strangely, the very first item that Sophie choose for lunch was fruits. A healthy start to her meals? But hey, the mama here is not complaining at all. So yes, perhaps they could add fruits and even yogurt among the mix of desserts for the kids too.
And for the kids, the best part of the lunch is not just the dessert or the sprawling open spaces where they can run around but the kids activities specially planned for them with balloon sculptors and a magic show on the front lawn of the restaurant.
These two gentlemen were quite a hit with the kids as they had a way with kids and kept them thoroughly entertained with their tricks and jokes while the parents can sit back and continue to enjoy their lunch uninterrupted and undisturbed couple time.
Even though Sophie was quite apprehensive about watching the magic show without us, she soon forgot about us as she was so taken by the magician and his amazing magic tricks.
Fun after Lunch
If you’re feeling a little guilty after an indulgent lunch, which I certainly did, you can take advantage of the complimentary access to the resort’s swimming pool, children’s slides and splash pad to burn it off. Maybe not all the calories, but hey some exercise is better than none right? So with our coloured wrist tags, we headed to the pool and that to me was the cheery on the cake as it also meant we didn’t have to further plan for any activities that afternoon.
As we’ve stayed at Rasa Sentosa last year for my birthday celerbation, Sophie remembered how much fun she had at the pool and was so excited that she’ll get to enjoy the pool facilities again.
What makes this resort a fun hotel for the kids are the water slides, and splash pads. In total, there are three slides and Sophie had so much fun that I lost count of the times she took it. The lifeguards on duty were also very sporting and made the kids do high-fives and cheer before took the slides down and really amped up the fun factor.
To keep it safe for little guests, the swimming pool employs a particle physics based water management system to keep water at its most pristine and natural form without incurring chlorine-related risks such as skin and eye irritations.
We took a dip in the big pool as well and our afternoon and had more splashing fun. And even though there was a light drizzle, it didn’t deter us from having a fun afternoon and rain stopped for us to continue swimming. In fact, our afternoon almost felt like a mini-staycation as we only left at 5:30pm when we had to adjourn for dinner.
Our weekend can’t get more perfect than this. And I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it too if you’re looking to spend quality time with your family on a Sunday afternoon at Rasa Sentosa. While the price is rather steep, what you get is fantastic food with a fabulous view plus entertainment for the kids while you dine. I would consider this to celebrate my birthday or maybe even for Easter where they’ll have a Easter Garden Party on 5 April.

A amazing Sungday. Thank you for sharing. I like the slight food coma.
Very informative post with ranges of nice pictures. It is pretty great idea to have lunch in an open location with entertainment atmosphere. I love desserts and they look really appealling through your pictures.
