Sophie turns five this year. To mark this milestone, we decided to hold a party for her since we’ve kept the celebration a low key affair for the past two years with a simple celebration in the child care and dinner at home while watching the NPD at home.
Unlike most girls who caught up in a Frozen fever, Sophie requested for a Sofia the First party. I initially wanted to hold the party in a cafe but because Sophie’s birthday falls on National Day, a public holiday, most couldn’t take reservations and some even impose a surcharge. So we decided to do it the good old style and held it at home.
The first celebration started in her childcare a day before her actual birthday where I surprised her with a Sofia the First dress.
What’s a party without cakes and balloons?
It wasn’t easy finding a Sofia the First cake and I finally came across a home baker, Bake Avenue, which had just what I was looking for. Our Sofia the First strawberry cake was filled with fresh strawberries and the cake tasted so light and fluffy even though it was topped with piped fresh cream that the kids kept coming back for multiple servings.
And since one is entitled to privileged treatment on their special day, we took her out after the celebration in the child care and went to the newly opened Polliwogs in Suntec City.
The next morning, someone got up extra early to help me put up the party deco which I DIY for the party. We went with a purple theme for the deco, in line with the Sofia the First signature colour.
For the Royal Party, I prepared a crown craft activity for the kids who arrived early. As more of her friends arrived, we adjourned to the void deck for games. But half-way through a game of Blow-Wind-Blow, they caught sight of the playground and little feet scampered off for their own version of fun. I guess whatever makes them happy.
By noon, most of the guests had arrived and we cut short playtime to proceed for lunch. I catered lunch from DeliHub, a subsidiary of Neo Garden where they served halal food as we had Malay friends among us. If you plan to order from them, do try their curry chicken, which had praises from everyone.
And for the part that Sophie has been waiting for all morning, the birthday cake! This two tiered purple ombre cake was also baked by Bake Avenue, the same baker who baked Sophie’s cake the previous day. The delicate piping of the ombre cake really added a royal hint to the cake. The cake not only scored in the looks department but also tasted fantastic and the texture of the sponge cake was light and fluffy with each bite. And the best part was that it was not too sweet.
And we also had cupcakes and macrons all in the matching theme. I didn’t managed to take a picture of the inside of the cake but it also had the same purple ombre effect too, which really wowed the guests. All the guests gave it the thumbs up and the kids came back for more.
Happy Birthday little Princess!
Sophie had a a blast being princess for a day with her gown and tiara. But she couldn’t take how uncomfortable the dress made her feel and had a quick change of wardrobe. Ahh the price one has to pay to look pretty.
Before our guests left, Sophie gave each of her friends a Sofia the First goodie bag which consisted of a Sofia the First drawstring with all things Sofia from stationery set to stickers, a toy figurine and a party crown to remember the Royal Party.
I think the party went well though there were times where I felt like a headless chicken trying to be the photographer, the game master and a host to our guests. But the smiles of the guests and especially Sophie made it all worthwhile.
So lesson learnt, next time, I’ll outsource some of these roles… or maybe we’ll just go book a hotel room to celebrate her birthday and catch the NDP next year since it will be at the Padang. Like I always tell Sophie, she’s a lucky girl to have the nation celebrating her birthday and with fireworks too. Ain’t she the lucky one 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIE!
* Special thanks to Bake Avenue for their kind sponsor for the birthday cakes and bakes.

Yes they were a hit with the adults and kids alike.
Blessed birthday Princess Sophie!!! And kudos to you and hubby for putting in so much effort for her special day. Her brilliant smiles in all the photos really says it all! 🙂

Thank you on behalf of Sophie. She certainly had a fun time meeting her friends whom she hasn’t seen for a while. Some of them were her cc classmates who changed to another school, so they were so happy to see each other.
Happy belated birthday Sophie! What an apt theme! 🙂
I think her best present must have been having her mummy and daddy bring her to a playground after her party in school! I can imagine how envious her classmates must have been!
Heh, her classmates didn’t know we took her out to an indoor playground but it sure made her day as she enjoyed herself very much. But I find the playground smaller than their other branch at Robertson Quay. But hey, she’s not complaining 🙂
Happy birthday Sophie! Looks like mama planned a superb party for you! I love how purple and pretty everything looks! I bet all the guests had tonnes of fun, well done Susan! 🙂 clap clap! Happy to see all your smiles!
Thanks Summer! It wasn’t easy trying to pull this off in such a short time especially when we were still overseas. But happy to do it for her seeing how she enjoyed herself and seeing her friends.
Happy belated birthday Sohie! The cake looks gorgeous and Sophie looks so so happy in every single photo!
Hi there,
My daughter loves Sofia the First as well. Would you care to share where you got the gown from? Been trying to get one for her upcoming birthday. Thank you!
Hi Jes,
I bought mine online from Taobao. If you only want it for a party can also consider renting it. One of them is my mini-me, an online shop where they have a Sofia the First costume. http://mymini-me.com/products/disney-sofia-the-first-deluxe-child-costume
