Review and Giveaway: Monsters on the Wall

One of the things that I’ve been trying to do with my about to turn 4-year-old, is to train her to sleep independently. However, it’s been an uphill tasks as she’s afraid of what lurks in the dark.

So these are the few things that I’ve done to ease her into sleeping on her own

  • a night light
  • soft toys close by to accompany her as she sleeps
  • reading books about sleeping on her own

One of the title that I’ve been reading her is Monsters on the Wall by Adeline Foo. You may be more familiar with her as the local author behind the famous series, Amos Lee.

In Monsters on the Wall, Kai Kai has the same problem as Sophie. He’s afraid to sleep at night. And what’s keeping him up are monsters that he sees from his bed. One moment it’s a Komodo Dragon, and the other is a tarantula and a python.

But what Kai Kai doesn’t know is that he has a secret protector who watches over him and protects him from these evil creatures. Just who is it? You have to read it yourself to find out.

The book is written for young readers and is a relatable topic for most kids who are preparing to sleep independently. As adults, we often dismiss our children’s fear of the dark but to Adeline the author, she take the other approach and encourages the child to stand up and fight off these monsters.

So if you are preparing to get your kids to sleep independently, this would be a good read for them. Monsters on the Wall retails at $13.50 and is available at all major bookstores.

And here’s a Juggling Mom giveaway.

This book would really be very useful if I win it because my daughter is suddenly afraid of the dark! She gets really upset once the sun sets and tonight we finally realised why she suddenly talked about witches and “bad things”; she caught a glimpse of a witch on TV while we were in Bangkok! 🙁
