“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, please let down your hair.”
Get ready for a hair raising musical with Rapunzel.
The story of Rapunzel is one that always intrigues little Sophie. Whenever we read the book, her the age old question will always be, “How did Rapunzel and the evil witch managed to get up the tower if there are no stairs in the first place?”
Hmm… tricky, tricky, I know.
So when we got tickets to watch Rapunzel in a musical fairy tale presented by SRT, Sophie was delighted to meet her long-hair princess. While this is a familiar story for many, we enjoyed the few twists along the way and how it was given a modern spin to it without straying too far from the original story.
Like instead of a tower, Rapunzel was trapped in a tall……Cactus in the dessert!
The musical was especially engaging and fun for kids as there were brightly and colourful backdrop animated puppets and lots of singing and even audience interaction throughout the show.
Sophie’s favourite part was learning the song to help the prince remember the secret ingredients that he needed so that he could free Rapunzel. And till now the song is still stuck in our heads! There are also silly songs like not wearing pajamas to meet a new friend which amused the kids so much that I could hear kids roaring with laughter.
And like all fairy tales, there was a happy ending where the spell was broken and Rapunzel was reunited with her parents who were the … Guess I shall not reveal the ending too much and leave you to catch it for yourself.
Rapunzel makes for a great family show that will delight both young and old. But more importantly, kids will leave learning about values like parent-child relationship, friendship and love.

Hi there!
Thanks for your view of “Rapunzel”. My daughter whose name is also Sophie, is 17 months old. I know the recommended age for the show is 2-6 years old. Just wondering if I should bring Sophie to the show, whether she is too young for it?
While it is an engaging performance, I wouldn’t recommend it for under two years old since it is almost an hour long. I would think shows that allow her to sing and dance along would be more ideal.
Thanks for the feedback! 🙂
