Motivational Monday – One Little Word for 2015

Last year, I started a new tradition to focus on one word that will guide me for the next 365 days. This was inspired by Ali Edwards as I got started on Project Life.

I choose the word, Nurture, to remind myself of my role to be a nurturing mother and wife at home as well as to remember to nurture my soul too.

While I may not have scored 100% in all those areas, I think having the word at the back of my head helped to steer me in the direction of being a more nurturing mom and wife. And as I reflected on my failings, one thing I really lacked was patience, which I attribute to the lack of sleep (you saw that coming right) and from living a less than focused life.

Word for 2015

So my word for 2015 is going to be PAUSE.

2014 ended on a somber note with news of a mysterious flight crash on QZ8501 where 162 passengers were on board. There was also natural disasters which hit our neighbour in Malaysia that took the lives of many.

For me, December was a quiet month as I as recuperating at home from my surgery for fibroid removal. During my time at home, I was forced to rest as I was advised not to move so much so that my wound was heal quickly. And the rest did me well because my wound recovered well, I slept early, ate healthily and was so much more refreshed both physically and mentally.

Learning to Pause

So for the new year, I’m going to learn to:

Pause and not let the busyness of life take over.

Pause and not simply react when stress levels rise.

Pause and reflect and give thanks for what I’ve been blessed with.

Pause and ask myself if this will matter in a year, 3 years or 10 years time.

Pause and look at the beauty that’s everywhere around me.

Pause and quieten my soul so that I can hear that still small voice when He speaks.

What do you choose as your word for 2015? I’ll like to hear why you choose it.

Pause is a great choice of word, Susan. Glad to hear that you’ve completely recovered! I am going to follow your tip and ask myself to pause and reflect on whether this is going to matter in a year, 3 years or 10 years time. Thought that was very wise advice indeed. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Summer,
Looked like you had a very busy December with the family. I hope I will remember to pause often as I’m always hurrying around trying to cross out the hundred and one things on my to-do list 😛

Choosing single words for the new year certainly seems like something everyone is doing but it’s great to have focus rather than be all over the place. Having a singular goal that all other goals revolve around. I love your word. Kinda like stopping and smelling roses, especially when we are all going so fast in our lives. My word for 2015 is health. Exercise, eat well, sleep more, nourish my soul.
