Last Saturday, Sophie was in for a treat when we watched the final and might I say the best production of the year by iTheatre, Grimm’s Fairy Tales. It was hard to imagine how a children’s production could be a full-scale Broadway-standard Musical, but they sure delivered it as Sophie was transfixed watching her favourite characters come to life for the whole 90 minutes.
In Grimm’s Fairy Tales, there were a total of nine stories, from the familiar ones like Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel and some new ones like Lucky Hans and the Valliant Little Tailor. But the ones that Sophie enjoyed the most were The Musicians of Bremen and Little Red Riding Hood as we often read these stories to her.
Throughout the show, she was captivated by the energetic and lively performance as the actors changed from singing and talking beasts to kings and heros as they tell the tale of how good triumphs over evil. The acting was accompanied by catchy tunes and songs and even puppetry which was quite a comedic scene in the story of Rapunzel.
Although some of the jokes were targeted more at the adults, Sophie could understand most of the stories and when I asked her what she thought of the performance, she gave me a thumbs up and said, “Best!” You know what they say about children telling it as it is and I certainly thought it was a very good production too.
Do remember to catch the whole cast in the meet and greet at the end of the show outside the auditorium.
