At the start of the year, I decided that instead of making New Year Resolutions, I’ll focus on a word for my Word of the Year and I chose Pause which you can read about it here. And how did I fare for the past one month? It flew by so quickly that I didn’t have any time to breathe. Not quite the kind of stop and pause as I imagined.
So I’m embarking on a blog train with a group of fellow mum bloggers on 5 things I will do differently in 2015.
5 things I will do differently in 2015
BE MORE…
- Present
The irony of smart phones is that they keep us connected and distant at the same time. With so many different social media platforms to toggle between from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and even Whatsapp, the bandwidth that we have left for those closest to us gets sadly neglected.
And while, I’m not ready to have a social media detox and delete Facebook from my mobile phone as yet, what I will do is to give those around my full attention instead of tapping away and scrolling on my mobile phone.
- Rested
Ideally we need 7-8 hours of sleep every night. But like most mums, I fall short of that because there’s so much to be done after the kid is asleep. And besides the housework, it certainly doesn’t help when two of my hobbies, blogging and scrap booking, keeps me up late when my creative juices go into overdrive mode late into the nights.
Since something’s gotta give and I’ve decided to cut back on both if I want to delay the wrinkles and have lights out before midnight.
- Creative
Most people think that I’m naturally creative when they see my DIY project or craft ideas. But I’m far from being born with a natural creative flare. I do however think that it was partially nurtured and later fueled by passion when I developed an interest in handmade stuffs. I’m most in my element when I’m able to create with my hands, be it scrapbooking, dabbling with craft project or simply just exploring new angles with my camera.
My inspirations are Instagram and Pinterest where there is so much to discover be it photography, crafting, scrapbooking and even teaching Sophie in fun ways. I hope to be able to share more of my creative idea on this blog here as well and inspire others to keep creating.
4. Patient
This is an area that is a constant work-in-progress for me. As a mum, my patience gets tested every single day from having to deal with tantrums to bad behaviour where I often react in anger and in haste which means hurtful words get spoken which leads to regrets. And with hubby, it can be just as bad because you know how familiarity breeds contempt and I’m one who’s guilty of taking hubby for granted.
Thankfully, Sophie and Alexis both have big hearts and forgive easily. But I’m no taking it for granted and hope to practice being more patient with my family members.
- Focused
These days I find myself all over the place, wanting to multi-task to get more done that I end up not giving 100% in every task and short-changing myself in the process.
With limited time on my hands, I have to learn to be focused and prioritise what’s important if I want to avoid feeling burnt-out. That means always pausing to ask myself what is important and learning to say no to some things that don’t really matter.
So that’s my simple list of 5 things. Not terrible exciting but at least it’s doable. I contemplated between writing 5 or 15 for this post but decided on the former so that I will not break point 2 above.
I hope that this post inspires you to stop and think about 5 things that you will do differently in 2015 and I’ll love to have you share it with my in the comments below.

Thanks for leaving a comment Rachel. I just made something for Valentine’s Day and shared it on the blog 🙂
Oh yeah, so agree that we all, mamas need to be more well rested!
Most definitely Karen, especially if we want to keep the wrinkles at bay 🙂
Trying so hard to get rested but there’s just not enough time in a day to do what we want, isn’t it?? I really have to really work on this too!!
I try to be well rested but it’s so hard with juggling with all those other things in life. I guess we just have to set aside some time and label it “MY time!!”
