I have a piece of tofu at home

If only my “tofu” was this cute

Do toddlers go through  a whiny phase after they turn two? It certainly seemed that way for Sophie.

In the past week or so, Sophie has been acting all whiny. This happens mostly in the mornings when she’ll come up to me with pouting lips and her forehead all burrowed up telling me:

  • “mama, leg pain”,
  • “ouch my eye, my eye” (when her hair gets into her eyes),
  • “my tummy is wet” (when water gets on her belly while brushing her teeth)
  • “my shoulder pain, mummy”
  • “my finger”
  • “wash my leg” (happened when poo landed on her leg!)

and so many more that I can’t even remember. Of course none of these complaints warranted a panic attack and me rushing her to the doctor as they were merely harmless complains.

Just this morning, it was a triple combo of shoulders, tummy and leg. On a positive note, I can tell that she’s capable of naming her different body parts. But part of me also wonders what’s going on in that little mind of hers.

I suspect it’s her way of getting attention from me which has been getting quite tiring for me  as she’s been refusing to let Daddy to do anything for her. Daddy can’t wear her diapers for her, can’t wear her socks and shoes for her, can’t change her, can’t put her to bed… you get the idea.

When she was in one of those whiny moods this morning, it suddenly struck me that I used to be called “toufu” by my mom for acting all soft when I was sick (which was quite often as I was a sickly child). I’ll moan and make a BIG deal out of it especially when she would just dismiss my pain and brush me aside. And if my memory didn’t fail me, it was my attempt for her to issue the royal decree that I could skip school while part of me was also just trying to act “manja” with my mom.

I jokingly recounted this to Alexis and told him that we have another piece of tofu at home with our little Princess. I’m seeing too much of myself in her.

I guess what she really wants is just mummy’s love and affection 🙂

We created a familiar face at the Singapore Art Museum

Are your kids anything like you when you’re young? Or are they so different, you often wonder where they got that <insert peculiar personality> from?
