Home Learning – Learning about Traffic Light

Last week, we received an email from Sophie’s childcare teacher for a Parental Involvement Program to support the thematic learning that they are having for this semester on the topic of transportation. The activity that we had to do with Sophie was a “Fruit Traffic Light”.

By using coloured fruits to make a traffic lights, kids learn what each colour represent while learning the importance of eating healthily.

Ingredients Needed:

• Red coloured fruit – Watermelon
• Yellow coloured fruit- Pineapple
• Green coloured fruit- Grapes
• Biscuits

Steps.

  1. Scoop pieces of cut up fruits and place them onto the biscuits in the following order from red, yellow to green
  2. Talk to your child about what each colour on the traffic light represent
  3. Eat and enjoy your fruit traffic light

Through this activity, we also reinforced the importance of obeying traffic rules and how to stay safe when crossing the road.

Remember:

  • Wait for all vehicles to stop before using pedestrian crossing, zebra crossing and traffic light crossing included
  • Never dash across the road at all times
  • Never play by the side of the road
  • Do not cross in between stationery vehicles as vehicles may not see you and an accident may happen
  • Always buckle up when you’re in car
