Last Thursday, I was invited to Coca Cola’s 126th birthday party. It was a cosy party held at Dallas Restaurant & Bar for their Coca Cola supporters which included their avid coke collectors and bloggers.
As it was my date night with Alexis, I was looking forward to the evening where we’ll learn how to concoct cocktails using their range of beverages. But before we got to that, the team from Coca Cola shared a little more of their history and how they have been refreshing generations for the past 126 years. We all know that as a brand, Coca Cola has done a phenomenal job at their marketing efforts. Did you know that Coca Cola is the world’s 2nd most recognizable word after “ok”. How cool is that? But more than just a beverage company with remarkable marketing, Coca Cola has also done a great deal with their corporate social responsibility efforts. I was particularly moved by what they have done for these 3 Filipions who were working overseas and reuniting them with their unexpecting families on Christmas. It was so touching that I teared up just watching their family members faces light up. You must watch it yourself to know what I’m talking about. This is one example where they have successfully tugged at heart strings with how they have translated their message of “open happiness” to their consumers and leave them with fond memories associated with their brand.
During the games segment, we snagged a Coca Cola inspired UNIQLO T-shirts during a quiz time, giving us bragging rights to be one of the first few in Singapore to own one of these before it hits the stores.
Oh and just for the vanilla coke lovers, I took the golden opportunity to ask the marketing team why they have discontinued my all time favorite drink. They cited that low demand was the key factor for pulling it off the shelves. So if you’ll like to satisfy your vanilla Coke craving, stock up when you head up to Malaysia, as they are the only country in Asia that still sell them.
We had a fun time being bartenders for the evening. And to help turn us to professionals, we were given cocktail mixers and equipment in our goody bag, so that we can practice at home and serve up some cocktails to our friends.
Happy Birthday Coca Cola and here’s to many more years of refreshment for nations 🙂
