Every school holidays, I always make it a point to take Sophie to the shopping malls to catch the various performances of her favourite cartoon characters. Never mind the long waits and having to jostle with the crowds as the shows never fail to put a big wide smile on her face. I just love seeing that contented look on her. And this year, one of the characters that she’s grown to like is Thomas the Tank Engine, all thanks to the influence of the boys in her school. Since I’ve been taught to cast my gender stereotype aside, I’ve indulged her in a few Thomas trains and even brought her for a Thomas movie.
When I told her that Thomas & Friends were coming to City Square Mall, she was elated! Okay, I know you must be wondering just how entertaining can a show about trains be? I don’t deny it, I was a skeptic myself initially. But I can assure you that this was easily one of the BEST productions I’ve seen. #notexaggerating
First of all, what you can expect is first dips on a never-before-seen worldwide production. And secondly, you get to see snow as part of the show. How cool!
Without giving too much of the story away, Thomas is supposed to deliver letters from the children to Santa but he picked up the wrong baggage and has to rush his last delivery before it snows. The two station hands, Dusty and Rusty lent a huge dollop of humour with their clumsy antics that had the kids in stitches as they bumped into each other like a hundred times. I can so imagine them covered in blue black after each shows.
And Sophie?
She loved it, simply judging by the fact that she laughed, sang along and didn’t for once turn to ask a single question throughout the whole 30 minutes. Not even once.
And when it started to snow, her whole face lit up as she got on her feet to try to “catch” the snow along with the other excited kids.
We also received a Meet and Greet cum photo opportunity with Thomas & Friends which can be redeemed with a minimum spending of $50.
But the fun didn’t just end here. Outside City Square Mall in the outdoor park (near the main entrance), they brought back the good old Uncle Ringo rides including a mini viking , bouncing castle, merry-go-round and a choo choo train. Sophie had a go on the choo choo train and had a jolly good time.
I love the whole carnival atmosphere there and hope to see more of such old fashion fun games and rides. After all, that’s what I grew up with and I still think they are the coolest 🙂
