Ready for number 2?

Is it just me or have you noticed that August was a popular month where the storks were in overdrive mode to deliver babies? The timing as analyzed by one my colleague is because all these babies were conceived during the end of the year. You know, year end, people don’t work overtime, everyone’s in a more relaxed mode with holidays and maybe even some booze and hence more baby dancing…

Reminiscing my mother and child moment

Some of these moms happen to be my colleagues or friends. Some of them were first time moms but most of them were 2nd time blessed. Invariably, the question of a second one for me would pop up from a friend or two.

Even though its been 6 months after my fibroid removal operation and my wounds would have been sufficiently healed by now, I wonder if I’m ready for a second one. Actually how does know when you’re ready for a second one?

Thankfully I had a smooth pregnancy despite the presence of some fibroid. It’s also great that Sophie is now two and the age gap, if we start trying now, would be ideal. But with a toddler in her terrible twos… erm I mean terrific twos (positive reinforcements), she can be quite a handful with her tantrums. I’m also not quite sure how this already tired body can cope with more night wakings which I know now succumb to co-sleeping again …

Other questions looming in my mind

  • domestic help or not
  • continue working or not
  • or maybe work part time, work from home
  • shift closer to our parents or in laws or not
  • will we have enough time for two
  • financially enough or not
  • will both get the best from us

I guess the questions may never end and we’ll never be fully prepared. So Alexis and I have decided that if God entrusts a life to us, we will welcome the precious one with open arms.

I could get used to seeing a baby face like this 🙂

I’ll like to know

  • For moms with more than one child, how did you know when it was time for baby two or three?
  • For those with one child, when are you planning for baby two?

FB: Yes that’s true. And there’s no telling how long the trying can take us too.
Ivy: So better start when I’m younger? Haha true, don’t know how to cope when I get older.
Cly: I did plan to have before 30 too. So guess I have to set new deadline of 35?

There is no right timing! I know for sure i wanted #2 only when #1 started nagging all the time that she is so bored and want to go her friends’ house every weekend! I think the earlier the better, 1. yr body recovers faster, 2. you have more energy for the kids, 3. a shorter age gap means they can play together! JIA YOU!

Age makes a difference. I was much more tired during my 2nd pregnancy. And my Gynae said the older I give birth, the less flexible my body/bone.

I too faced the same dilemma. As far as I love to have a big family, but the thought of going through the after-op pain (in case c-sec again), sleepless nights, engorged breasts scare me! LOL…but we kinda plan to have our #2 in the year of the Horse. We are ban-tang like that. So this is how to plan for our #2 and by then Allysa will prob be 3yrs and 4 when the next comes along. So I guess it shd be managable then. =D

That sounds like a manageable age gap. All the best for baby planning 🙂

  13. […] may be pregnant. And why would I want to do that, since I announced on my blog that we’re making baby plans for number 2? Which, by the way, was what happened to ALL my girlfriends. Very very awkward, especially when […]
