Motivational Mondays – I’m loved by you

As a mom, we all have days when we swing between wondering how lucky we are to have our wonderful kids to our lives to being so utterly mad with them when they act up with their tantrums, whinings and what have yous that we have to take d.e.e.p….. breathes and make sure that they don’t catch us mouthing expletives under our breath. For me, I’ve had so many of these moments lately with Sophie getting more stubborn and insistent on her ways especially on weekdays nights.

When Sophie starts to throw her tantrums, I try to watch my temper and tell myself that she just desires our fullest attention on her at home. But it can be trying especially when I’ve had a long day at work, there’s housework waiting for me and all I want to do is crash in bed.

One of these evenings, she was being naughty so I pretended to ignore her when I was having my dinner and she leaned over to me and sang in her sweetest voice, 我的好妈妈, 我的好妈妈, which is directly translated to my dear mama.

I thought that it was her way of emotional black mail as I swear I can almost see a thought bubble floating above her head where I’ll throw my arms around her to give her a big hug and she’ll go scoot free. But didn’t happen because I didn’t want her to think that she can get away with her bad behavior.

But that night as I put her to sleep, she starting humming those words again, 我的好妈妈, 我的好妈妈, and she sounded like she was singing a song, so I took out my mobile, did a search on youtube and found the song.  She was so excited when she heard the familiar tune, she started singing along and ended by planting a big kiss on me.

I think I might have shed a tear or two. Firstly, because I was touched by her song and the lyrics, secondly because I’ve failed to know her heart. At this point, it dawned on me that all Sophie wanted is for me to spend time with her. She knows that I’ve been working in the office but time at home is time with her.  I hugged Sophie close that night and apologized for being harsh without understanding her needs.

She just smiled, kissed me again and told me, “I love you, 我的好妈妈!” I’m glad that my little one holds no grudges and that I’m loved unconditionally by her. I’ve experienced the purest form of love and I know I’m blessed beyond words.

Here are the lyrics to the song.

我的好妈妈,下班回到家。

劳动了一天,多么辛苦了。

妈妈妈妈快坐下,妈妈妈妈快坐下,请喝一杯茶。

让我亲亲您吧,让我亲亲您吧,我的好妈妈!

Translation of the song lyrics

My dear mama is back from work

She’s had a long and tiring day at work

Mama come, sit down and have a cup of tea

Let me give you a kiss, my dear mama

What a simple but beautiful song. Sophie is such a sweet, endearing girl. I feel touched just reading your post…I understand that the fatigue a working mom faces and the struggles to mete out discipline when they misbehave…Sophie meant it when she sang “you are her good mama…” Do cherish these moments and let them lift your spirits up 🙂 Btw, Dana learnt this song in Nursery last year too! I never knew it can be found on YouTube. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your encouragement Angeline. As a working mom, I’m sure you know exactly what I mean. I wished that I have more hours in a day to spend it with her but we just have to make the most of it.

My boy sings this song for me too! I was so touched the first time I heard it! But the lyrics seem slightly different or either that, he hasn’t mastered it fully *LOL* It melts my heart nonetheless. Gonna show him this video clip later! Thanks!

Yes it is heart melting to hear them sing the song to us. I hope she means everything she sings too 🙂
