I Don’t Know How She Does It

I am looking forward to the movie “I Don’t Know How She Does It?” after a  friend on Twitter gave it the thumbs up and highly recommend the show to me. Naturally,  I google the trailers for the movie and it speaks so much to me. I think it would speak to all mothers, wives, working moms and stay at home moms.

It’s really funny because just a week ago, I met up with my uni friends and they were curious to know how I juggle between work, family life with a toddler, housework and now my blog at A Juggling Mom. I laughed and admitted quite candidly that I now have lower expectations of the cleanliness of my house!

I’m not sure about all new moms, but initially I tried to do EVERYTHING myself. I was a very hands on mom and cared for Sophie in every aspect. Because I breastfed Sophie a whole good 16 months, I was initially reluctant for her to stay away from me especially at nights. Now I’m so grateful for my in-laws who would offer to take care of her for the weekends and even on my recent holiday.

For us, a typical Monday to Friday work week would involve the morning madness to get everyone out of the door by 8am. After a day’s work, it’s dinner and then back home to play, read, wash, feed Sophie and then tuck her to bed. If I’m flat out, I’ll end up sleeping with her. If not, it’s housework, tidying up or typing away on my laptop when the moment of inspiration hits me for my blog. Some days, the sink is filled with unwashed dishes, piles of clothes waiting to be washed and ironed and toys strewed all over the floor.

So, supermom quality? Nah, just a mom who is no longer too hung up about things and trying to find work life balance. It’s a tough balancing act, I’ll have to admit. But there are perks to maintaining this lifestyle, where I can still earn my own income, get away for a holiday, have the convenience of a car and yes vitamin m for my shopping.

If you do catch the movie, tell me what you think. And to all moms, give yourself a pat on the back. Because if it were easy, the men would do it too!

Lowering the Cleanliness Standards. I love that! There are days that I let myself slack and let the dishes pile up, too. Haven’t seen the trailer for the movie yet. Will check it soon.

Not something that I’m proud of really but some days the dishes in the sink are really the last thing on my mind.
