Weekends are for we time, me time

Weekends are too long, said no one ever.

That’s why I’m very thankful that I had an extra long weekend last week where I could have more we time with Sophie and also steal some me time for myself.

As a full-time working mum, I always feel that time is not on my side when I only have those few precious hours after work to before bed time to make it our quality family time. Despite what others say about quality versus quantity, I still feel that we should spend more time with our children so that they know that they matter.

Over the long weekends, I had a lot of one-to-one time with Sophie as Alexis was unwell and busy. Besides taking time to coach her in her reading, I set aside my agenda and simply indulged in her games according to her rules.

And what did we do?

  • We make traffic signs for our traffic police game (which is still a work in progress).
  • We played masak masak with Sophie as the chef and me the waitress.
  • I made her Hello Kitty pancakes.
  • We brought her to have her favorite sushi for dinner and fruit tarts from the newly opened Sophie Bakery in Novena Square, which she claimed is her bakery.
  • We also went to my mum’s place for steamboat where she added so much joy and laughter to the gathering.

As much as I loved the extra time spent with Sophie, it was hard work playing mummy, teacher, storyteller, playmate, entertainer, cook…. and craved for some me time.

Thankfully, my mum agreed to look after Sophie while I went for a quick run before dinner. It felt so good to be up and running again as  I have not been exercising for two weeks due to a bout of flu and even broke my recording of hitting 5.23 km this year. A much needed training as Alexis and I have both signed up to take part in this year’s Vertical Marathon.

I’m motivated to make every weekend a more meaningful and fulfilling weekend for both my family and myself. Hope you had an awesome one too and here’s to a fab week ahead!
