Time Management – Eliminating time wasters

If you haven’t heard of the highly popular game Candy Crush, I don’t know which planet you’ve been living on. With so many Facebook requests asking me to give life, I finally decided to check out the game and downloaded the app two weeks ago.

But over the weekend, I made a hard decision to delete the game that I love off my hand phone (I’m already at level 33!). I don’t know about you but that game is ADDICTIVE. And what’s worse is that hubby shared a way to  ‘cheat’ which means I don’t have to wait for time to pass before I get another five lives to continue the game. Now you know why I say it’s addictive.

Last Sunday,  Alexis and I were both glued to our hand phones after breakfast, you guessed it, playing Candy Crush again….

Upon seeing that sight, Sophie got exasperated and said, “Mummy playing Candy Crush. Daddy also playing Candy Crush. So I play the iPad“. Not exactly the kind of example we should be setting for our three year whom we’re teaching about limiting her “screen-time”. So I immediately got off my hand phone and brought her to the playground to get a bit of sun and good-old-fashioned fun.

But what she said really hit hard. When I got back, I turned to Alexis and asked, “Don’t you think we’re wasting too much time on that game? I’m only on level 33, but so what if I won? That’s a lot of time wasted, so I’ve decided to call it quits“.

And I did. So sorry if your requests to give you life doesn’t get a reply.

That decision may not have given me a 25th hour of the day but I know that my time is put to better use especially for a mom who has to juggle both work and family.

Well done Susan! I am not on any FB games because as it is, I am on FB and the HL group a lot so I dare not even venture into it. I know how addictive such things can be so trashing it away at level 33 is not easy! My hubs is on the game too but I will gently nudge / remind him to respond and pay Dumpling some attention! :p

Yes, this reminds me of the starhub ad where the kids are neglected when their parents are engrossed on their mobiles. I don’t want my daughter feeling that way.

I agree that Candy crush is very addictive. It certainly is a great time waster. Good on you.

I’m keeping well away! We’re teaching ours about limiting ‘screen’ time too. The TV, the iPad and the Iphone. Instead we’re doing more reading and playing in the playground. I’ve just written a post about it.

Thanks for leaving a comment Janine. I did read that latest post of yours and am guilty of using the TV and iPad as a nanny sometimes. But that said, I set limits and makes sure that we spend more time outdoors, reading or doing art and crafts.

Well done Susan! I have not gotten on the game nor dared to download it because it sounds like exactly the type of game I would be addicted to. As it is, it’s a constant struggle to limit my own screen time. There really are more productive ways to spend time!

hello susan! For some reason, I am unable to grab your badge and add it to my post. Have no idea why. It comes out in codes when my post is published.

Hi Zee, nice meeting you today . The code is in html, so you’ll have to choose the html option before posting. Do let me know if you still have problems.

Good choice, Susan! I did the same when I realised I’ve wasted so much time trying to get to the next level. If you cannot resist the temptation, then don’t even give it a chance to temp you, do not download and/or deleting it is the best way to go!

Susan, nice meeting you the other day too! Anyway, I tried again last night and for some reason am still unable to make the badge appear (even after changing to HTML). What I did was I selected the text, copied and pasted it on my blog post. In any case, it’s alright! What I’ve done is that I’ve linked up to this post the traditional way. 🙂
