Preparing for the Lunar New Year at City Square Mall

The Lunar New Year signifies new beginnings and for many families it’s a tradition to start spring cleaning the house to welcome the new year by decorating the home and donning on new clothes. We’ve been busy on the cleaning and dusting front for the past few weekends and have not started on our new year shopping. So the invitation for a shopping experience at City Square Mall to get us prepared for the Chinese New Year couldn’t have been more timely.

Being a mom means that Sophie gets to go first on my shopping list. With a daughter, we’re are often spoilt for choice.

An all time household favorite – Metro

Chic peplum dress for your princess from In2Kids

Besides the kids speciality shops like In2Kids and Jarrons & Co, you can also find children’s apparel at Metro, Giordano and Hush Puppies.

It was hard to make up our mind given the variety of choices. In the end, we choose these two outfits from Metro.

The first dress is a cheongsam with a patchwork design.  The side red button detailed collar and color makes it an appropriate outfit for Chinese New Year yet versatile enough for special weekends. This dress retails at $33.00.

The second look is a cotton dress with a mandarin collar neckline in Sophie’s favorite color. With kids, comfort is the most important criteria, so this light and airy frock fitted the bill perfectly. And this was a bargain at $17.00. Also available in red and tangerine.

We didn’t forget the shoes to complete the look and here’s Sophie’s new pair of sparkly mary janes from Bubblegummers from Bata (level two). It’s purple, it’s shiny and all a little girl can asks for. Another great deal at just $22.95.

And last but not least, here’s her in a cool looking pair of shades (yes in purple again!) that we picked up from Toys R Us. Great for when she goes visiting.

Other shops worth checking out

In case you haven’t heard, Toys’R’Us and Babies’R’Us flagship store is right here in City Square Mall. Not only does it boast of a wide assortment of toys and games, it now includes baby essentials and clothings and even a Stride Right footwear section all under one roof.

Their section on home organization caught my eye as I saw these boxes which are perfect for organising your kids clothing and toys.

Need a hair cut for your child before the new year? Then head down to Junior League at basement 2 where your kids can get a professional haircuts without the tears, sticker treats and step out with stylish hair styles.

Best Denki has just opened at basement 2. Since Valentine’s Day round the corner, I decided to give myself a present and bought these lovely pair of pink heart-shaped ear phones with diamonds from Tiara.

You wouldn’t believe it but I snagged them at a great bargain at $8 when they are usually priced at $39.90!

Oh and I can’t wait for Diaso to open in February!

Don’t forget to also catch the Lunar New Year fair at level one, where there are stalls selling festive goodies and decoration items. You’ll also be treated to a host of exciting activities.

I love the outfits you chose for sophie! I never thought of going to metro. Thank you for sharing this! I know where the girls will be getting their cheongsams this year!

When we were at the City Square Mall outlet, they had more options for Chinese New Year clothing at the fair than in their shop. So you may want to check out their fair if you’re looking for cheongsam. The red patchwork design probably looks something like what you can get from Elly but at half the price.

Wow…if I were in Singapore and had at least $8, I would SO be walking out of the mall with a pair of those heart-shaped ear buds. As I am, oh, thousands of miles away, I had to settle for pinning it to my Valentine’s Board at Pinterest. :O)

Yes it was such a bargain that I even contemplated getting a few more as gifts.

Sophie is so sweet! The shoes look great too.

Bubbles has a very similar patchwork cheongsam that she wore last year. Love it. We got our dresses for the girls from MissyMessy.com this year!
