Mama I’m a big girl now

It’s been some time since I wrote a dedicated post on Sophie. And with her 3rd birthday is coming up soon, it’s only fitting that I write her a letter and let her know that she’s a big girl now.

Dear Sophie,

You’re turning three in a weeks time and these days you’ve been telling me,  “Mama, I’m a big girl now.”

You know that it’s your birthday’s coming up especially when you have a say in the theme you want for your party (which is Mickey by the way and no that does not include Minnie), the design you want for your cake ( Mickey and Minnie because you agreed that Minnie can be on the cake) and even the guests whom you want to invite.

As I watch you grow, I secretly wished that I could stop the hands of time and keep you as a toddler. Although we go through days when your fight to independence means frustrations for the both of us, I know that it stems from your desire to be a big girl, to do things on your own without help from us.

I have to remind myself that I have to learn to let go and let you try your best. But even if you fail, know that I’ll be right here to cheer you on and pick you up to try again.

I pray that you’ll always stay curious and be unafraid to pursue your dreams. To always bring joy and laughter to those around you and infect them with your bubbly personality.

And just for the record, here are are some of your favorite things at 3 years.

PS: Don’t stop showering me with your hugs and kisses.

I know we’ll have a blast on your birthday 🙂

I’m linking up with

This is a brilliant idea, Susan! I think it’s be a great thing to show Sophie when she’s older. I loved the ‘Speaks Chinese like an Ang Moh’. (: Reminded me of my Tamil teacher who once said my attempts to speak in oral exams (the only times I ever spoke the language) suggested I wasn’t quite sure if I was speaking English or Tamil.

It not uncommon for most kids these days to sound ang-mofied since they all grow up being more exposed to English. Well I suspect the TV also plays a part since most of the cartoon they watch are from the US or UK.
Which reminds me, I should record her speaking in Chinese just for memory sake too 🙂

I can’t believe that at 3 yrs she can articulate all the details of her 3rd birthday party. What a change from 2 to 3 because J could care less it was his 2nd birthday ;). Cute lil collection of what she loves at 2. A really great memento!

When she was two, she liked Elmo, so naturally that become the theme for her two-year-old birthday. So we got her a jelly cake in the Elmo mould for her and her friends in the child-care centre.
Very soon, your son will have an opinion on what he wants for his birthday party 🙂

I echo every bit of your sentiments in wishing we can stop the hands of time. But take heart that little Sophie is blossoming into a fine young lady and soon, in the not so distant future, she is going to remember all of these which Mommy & Daddy have done for her through this blog! 🙂 I love the ‘Things she Loves at 3yrs’ Poster you did, very meaningful. Have a blessed 3rd Birthday Sophie! 🙂
