Asian Tales Floral Display at Gardens By The Bay

Asian Tales Gardens by the Bay 00

This Lunar New Year, Gardens by the Bay ushers in the year of the Goat with a new floral display entitled “Asian Tales“.

“Asian Tales” is the first of six chapters as Gardens by the Bay embarks on a storytelling journey in 2015, where visitors will be transported into  the magical world of folklore, legends, fairy tales and nursery rhymes through the language of plants with enchanting series of floral displays for the whole year.

As this is the year of the goat, you will spot these cute looking goats around the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. Decorated with bright golden hued chrysanthemum, they are sure to bring extra sunshine and a pop of colour to your pictures.

As you explore further into the Flower Dome, you will be captivated by the picturesque landscape of sculpted mountains in a field of Dahlias (大丽花) that were specially cultivated to celebrate the Year of the Goat. Dahlias.

A little fun fact for you, Dahlias belong to the world’s largest plant family and are related to Daisies, Chrysanthemums and Gazanias.  There are approximately 36 recognised species of Dahlias and most are native to Mexico, where it was declared the national flower in 1963.

This was the first time I’ve seen so many different varieties of Dahlias and each specie was unique and special in it’s own way. I couldn”t help but marvel at the spectral and colourful blooms that were visually arresting at every turn.

In the center at the Flower Field, you can try spotting your Chinese zodiac sign.

Some of the animals were a little tricky and not so easily recognisable so it helps if you know the order of the Chinese zodiac sign.

HUAT AH!

When we were there last weekend, there were craft activities such as face mask painting, painting of Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting. This weekend, there will also be appearance by the God of Fortune.

And of course, I can’t miss mentioning about the majestic sight of the three wooden sculpted goats perched on the ridge against a background of towering boulders that looked like a scene from a Chinese brush painiting. They had an air of mystery about them and I was pretty fascinated by the details of the carving which was a contrast to their cuter conterparts prancing around in the field.
